Covering a one-year tour of duty along the Santa Fe Trail from August, 1840, to August, 1841, this is the diary of a private in "Company B" of a volunteer cavalry regiment patrolling unincorporated remnants of the former Missouri Territory west of the Missouri River, in areas that are now the states of Kansas and Nebraska.

Part "Wild West" history and part crowd-sourced puzzle book, the ink-faded pages were painstakingly deciphered by Jim Gravelyn as best he could.  As a bonus, the purchaser receives access to the high-resolution images of all 120 pages of Private Vaughan's diary so that interested historians--amateur as well as professional--can view the pages au naturale and (hopefully) help decipher the undeciphered parts.
